With the middle of July already upon us, I do believe that it’s time for you to meet another super mom to tantalize your feels and get you feeling good. This super mom is also a fellow blogger, and has so much to share! She has her hands full and her heart is overflowing. It’s time to meet Sam!
Introduce yourself and tell us what you do and how many kids you have!
Hey, girl! I’m Sam, I’m a stay at home Mom with a side gig as a Mom blogger! Also, I have 4 daughters!
4 daughters sound like an adventure, Sam, to say the least. What does a typical day look like for you?
I try and wake up well before the kids. I usually go for a run, have some coffee, and work on my blog. When I’m ready (a.k.a. Caffeinated enough) I wake them up and get them ready for school. Once I drop the older 2 off I often take the younger 2 to Strong Start. When that’s over we come home and I do my daily chores and feed them 3 times over the next hour. We leave to pick the older girls up from school. Often we will go for a walk or to a park with the dog, then we come home, make dinner, get the girls ready for bed and then tuck them in. Once they’re in bed I tidy up/listen to them yell at me for water and hugs for half an hour or so, and when it’s finally quiet I enjoy some “me” time.

In your own words, what is the biggest struggle of raising 4 girls?
I think that’s to come in their teen years *sighs loudly and reaches for big ol’ bottle of wine*
Speaking of me time, how do you spend yours?
Netflix and chill, or a good book with a big ol’ glass of wine.
Wine and Netflix or reading sounds like the PERFECT me time. What are you drinking and watching currently?
My favorite wine is Apothic Inferno. I just finished up OITNB and I loved it so much!
I hope you’re not like Crazy eyes on the show when things don’t go your way! Speaking of that, what do you do when your plans get a wrench thrown in and things don’t go your way?
Well, I like to think that I am not like her. When things don’t go as planned I try and go with the flow as much as I can. I’ve learned that life, indeed, does go on no matter what you have to deal with first.
If one of my friends needed general advice, what would you tell them?
Try and look on the bright side. If you have something you feel you’d like to complain about try rephrasing it into a positive. “My children keep peeing on the floor” can turn into “My children gave me a reason to mop the floor today. I’ve been putting it off for far too long, anyway. Thanks, kids!”. Make humor a part of your life. It will help make motherhood a little bit easier.
As of today, what would you say your biggest accomplishment is?
I have 4 daughters that are healthy, strong, independent, smart, funny, kind, compassionate, and wonderful. I’m doing something right!
Because we are being honest and open here, have you always wanted to be a mom?
Nope! When I was an invincible teenager I wanted to be a career woman. That mentality changed when I got knocked up at 19. Here I am, 4 babies later… 🙂
I am a big believer that doling out life advice is not something that most people like. Have you ever been told something that was so outlandish that you just couldn’t?
Yes, I have. I was at my favorite musician’s (Xavier Rudd) concert. This guy and I were chatting and I mentioned I had kids. He said “what are you doing here? You should be home with them”. I literally had nothing to say.
But some advice is so helpful that we never forget. What have you been given that is worth more than gold?
Enjoy these years, they go by so fast. Ya, we’ve all heard it, and sometimes it’s not very easy to consider enjoying your time while you’re cleaning urine off the floor again. Really, though, it does go fast. My oldest is almost into double digits and it truly feels like she was born yesterday. The days are soooooooooo long, but the years are short. I try and write down as much as I can so I can look back on the good times we had (because mom brain is a thing and you will forget so much!).
If you could trade places for the day (alive or not) who would it be and why?
Our dog. I’d love to know why he insists on chewing up all my stuff. I feed him, walk him, pet him…but nothing seems to be good enough. I’d also like to know what he keeps barking at in the middle of the night…
Everyone has a favorite quote or words to live by. What are yours?
How are you able to be productive during the day? And, what is your most effective way to get things done?
I make sure that my cup is full. If I’m taking care of myself, I can take care of everything else that’s expected of me. If I’m energized and recharged I can do a lot and do it well! As for getting things done: Lists. I try and plan out the things I need to do. I also give myself some easy tasks just so I can cross them off.
Sam, I have to know, what are your plans for the future?
I want to work from home as a writer. When my kids are all grown I would love to work as a doula for young Moms.
That about does it. Is there anything else you want to tell my friends who are also bad ass super moms?
Mama, you’re doing a SUPER FANTASTICALLY AWESOME job. Give yourself a hug, don’t feel guilty about heading to the spa, say nice things to yourself, and love who you are. This job ain’t easy, but YOU are rocking it!
To date, Sam has got the most spunk in an interview! I really enjoyed getting to know Sam! I think that raising 4 girls (the thought terrifies me, to be honest) will do that to a mom, but that is just me.
If you enjoyed getting to know Sam, then you will love her on social media and her blog. Modern Day Hippie Mama is all about motherhood. She shares funny stories, DIY projects and her love of shopping. you can find her on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest!
