This is going to be the start of a series called “Super Moms-“. Each month, I am going to highlight some fabulous women (moms) who are unstoppable. We all as women and moms feel like our accomplishments go sometimes overlooked (and we wouldn’t have it any other way) and that my friends is going to change here and now! I want to celebrate us, in our endeavors, whatever they may be! So if you know of a deserving mama who should get a little bit of spotlight, email me and let me know!!
I am just going to jump right in and get started because this is so exciting! I would like to introduce you to my friend, Nicole! She is a mama of 4, married to a firefighter, and among her many talents, she runs the school Booster Club. I can personally attest to the high stress she has had running events for young kids, and she keeps her cool and has fun while she is at it. Ok, lets go!
Let’s introduce you to my friends, who are you?
I’m Nicole and I have been married to an amazing hard working firefighter for 12 years. I am also a mother of four kids. Two boys and two girls, ages 12,10, 6, and 18 months!
Now that we have that out of the way, can you describe a typical day in your life?
A typical day in my house? Crazy! LOL! No really, I don’t know where to begin. First I am not a morning person so trying to get out of bed, let alone get four little humans going is a chore! No matter how much you plan for the day the night before, someone is upset because they can’t find their favorite socks! After rushing out the door and praying we are to school on time, I then get home and do some play/cuddle time with my youngest.
Nap time rolls around then it is time to clean. I run around as quickly as I can to get the house straightened up so I can get some quite time to work on the computer. Being part of so many groups I always have events/fundraisers to prepare and plan for. Paying bills and paperwork for my mom is always on the schedule too. Then we have lunch time and run errands before picking up the big kids. This is where it gets crazy!! The kids get out of school at 2:45. we rush home and do homework and chores. Then to our activities (where we have something every night of the week).
Often, we are not done and home till 7:00-8:00 every night. We quickly eat dinner and off to bed for the kids, then on the computer again to fish more stuff and in bed by 11:30. It’s not pretty and it’s certainly not “perfect,” but it is us and we love being busy!
In life, things seem to have a funny way of going off track. What do you do when this happens to you?
Our lives are often going off track and is why I try to always have a plan but also let it take its course. I am a control freak and I have learned if I don’t plan for things to go a bit wonky at some point then I become very stressed and angry. Often times my husband reminds me to take a deep breath and find another way. He is my rock!
Are there any words of wisdom you use in your day to day life that you think all super moms should be using?
I think the phrase super mom really applies to all moms. We all go through the same things just at different points in our lives. That is the biggest thing I can say is always remember “you’re not the only one”. It isn’t just your kids that don’t listen. You are not a terrible mom because you can’t cook the perfect well-rounded meal every night. And yes sometimes (or all the time) your house is a mess all because kids live there!
When you need your time, what do you do? How do you decompress after an especially rough day?
Decompressing is a rough one for me because often I don’t have time. Lately, though, I have realized scrolling Facebook and finding the funny memes is a big stress reliever for me. This is because for a few moments I leave reality, LOL!
We’ve talked a lot about kids, did you always want to be a mother?
Yes! I have always wanted to be a mom. Honestly, I never wanted to go to college because I didn’t feel it was important when being a stay at home mom. How wrong I was!
As of today, what is your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment is my family. No matter what I do or where I go that will always be what I have.
Some women have a motto or quote to live by. What is yours?
It all depends on where I am in life, mine is always changing. As of right now, it is “you are not the only one” and “why not, no more excuses”.
If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would that be? Why?
The only person I would want to trade places with is my husband so we could both see and understand what we each do for the day.
I have been to a few of your events with our school. How do you keep your ideas so fresh?
Google, lol! I am always searching, googling to get ideas. I have so many but always short on time, help, and money, lol!!
There are many moms who wonder how to get even half of what you do done each day. So, can you tell us your secret?
Really there is no secret, just keep moving! I often want to quit because I am so overloaded, but knowing one day they will all be gone and this will all slow down is what keeps me going for now. I know I will miss it when it is gone!
We all get unsolicited advice from time to time. Have you ever been given any that is just so far-fetched that it made you laugh? What was it?
Oh, yes advice that is so very unhelpful!! Telling me to slow down and don’t do as much, and I will be happier! I did that one year because so many people were telling me to. I listened, went into a state of deep depression and felt useless. After hitting an all-time low and realizing what the root of the problem was, I started doing things again. I don’t think I will ever slow down again! I still am always getting people telling me to slow down, I just don’t listen!
My readers are always looking for the most effective way to get things done. Can you give them any advice?
Just keep your head up and have fun! Always remember even in the bad times, this is not going to last and one day they will be out of the house, so enjoy it while it lasts!
Is there anything else you would like other bad ass super moms like yourself to know?
One thing I didn’t mention was years ago a good friend of mine gave me the best advice I ever received! She told me when I am with my kids think about them, when at work think about work, and when working out think about working out! If you are always thinking about something else you will always be stressed that you are missing something and then, in the end, you miss out on everything going on around you!
I have to say watching Nichole juggle all of her events each week is inspiring! I can not even keep up with the laundry, let alone do fundraising and kids activities each night!
Now you have heard Nicole’s story. And it should have inspired you to begin thinking of that one super mom in your life who has you in awe. Who is she? What makes her so special? I would love to give this space each month to a deserving mom who is unstoppable. I want all of us to be Super Moms!
Until next time…
