Did you hear that New York residents are going to be eligible for FREE education? (yes, fashion bloggers, as if you need another reason to need to be there!) As for the rest of us, it’s either sky-high student loans or perhaps, no college. But, what if I told you that there are resources out there, for regular people just like you and me? What if I told you they were completely FREE?
~disclaimer: These are my own opinions and I am in no way being compensated to share this~
Yes. Free education
I am going to give you what you need, and I am going to tell you why you need to be using it. And, when you have learned a thing or two, you are going to feel the exact same thing I feel, right now: WHY DOES NO ONE KNOW?
There are 2 sites that will give you more than you could even dream of having at your pretty polished fingers. The first one, Khan Academy was brought to my attention by my daughter’s second-grade teacher. But, don’t shut it down yet, because there is more to meet the eye. Much more.
You can learn anything. For free. For everyone. Forever.
First and foremost, Khan’s slogan is ” For free. For everyone. Forever.” The subjects are from kindergarten math, all the way up to college admissions and beyond! I was on the website and just clicking around, I found 31 sub-topics under the heading Biology alone! Things like Microeconomics and Entrepreneurship have a spot too!
The reason you need to be using this is because you can join your kid in the learning game. While you are busy chugging along with your learning, your kids are going to be earning achievements for everything they are learning. There are hands-on videos, lectures and so much more, you are surely never going to be bored again!
khanacademy.org
My favorite online destination for free education is Alison.com.
I think that sentence should get its own heading, and I bet you will agree. Alison boasts more than 800 FREE courses, on just about everything you could possibly want to know! You can choose from business, health, humanities, information technology (IT), lifestyle, language, marketing, math, and science.
Seems a little overwhelming until you click on one of the categories, which then will break down into much easier to manage and decide on courses. I took a course on search engine optimization before starting this website, and the very best thing was that I could go at my own pace. I have 2 kids who always need my attention, which means I would be losing information before I even had the chance to understand it. I could pause and come back, or go back a few seconds to make sure I heard something right. After completion, you have the option to purchase a certificate or diploma, depending on the type of course you take.
Here’s the gist, if you will; you can learn for free, anytime day or night. You have access to so much free material. You can learn in your dress clothes. You can learn in your jammies! Do you see where I am going with this? FREE EDUCATION. Life just got better my friends!
Please, if nothing else, share the love for these around so everyone knows and has access! If you find a course that you must take, send me a tweet to @ohshesahotmess to tell me which one!!
Why are you still reading this when you could be learning something new for absolutely no charge to you?

Yes, I hope so as well. And in the meantime, I hope more people hear about Alison.com and Khan Academy! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for sharing! I’ve been trying to find some quality places to find free classes that could help me with my blogging. With everything you described I’m sure they have something that will help me! 🙂

I’ve heard of Khan Academy but not Allison.com. Thanks for sharing these resources, I will check them out!

This is amazing! So glad to have read this, education is so important and should be accessible to everyone.
I love free education websites! My favorite is creativelive.com!
Wow, I haven’t heard of either of these, but I will definitely check them out. I was really thrilled when I discovered Udemy with courses at about $20, but free is even better especially if it is quality. I often use Youtube also, but if you have the option to purchase a certificate like you said that could be really useful in some situations! Thanks for letting us know!
Thanks for sharing ! I am loving the Alison site!
Wow, did not know about New York offering free education! I live in PA myself. I’ve known about free online education, but never really looked into it. I’m looking at the Alison site right now and everything sounds great, especially “Introduction to Time Management.” Haha, I need to take that course!

This sounds like a good way to get a quick lesson or two in. Do you know if the diplomas/certificates you can buy will be resume-worthy?
i do believe so.
This is fabulous. You are never too old to learn new things. I always wanted to visit New York. I would love to the learn another language. I speak 5 already so a sixth one won’t hurt🤔 thanks for this info. So great to know.
5! Holy smokes! That is incredible!
I love Alison.com, I’ve taken few courses already!
Alison courses are fantastic. I took one on Richard III and it was fascinating. Well paced too !
Yes, as a New Yorker, I am excited for this. And yes there is free education everywhere. I’m not opposed to even paying higher taxes. I believe our taxes should be used for bettering society and a well educated society benefits us all.
SO helpful that there is a wealth of knowledge out there these days on the big wide interweb!
This was a truly wonderful post. Thank you for your provided information
This sounds like a great initiative! Knowledge is power ladies… that is what I teach my daughter. We need to empower ourselves!
You can’t beat a bit of free education. As an adult i still like to learn too.
More places need to provide what NY is providing.
Wow, free courses? I want to check out the list and start taking some.

Great post! I agree, there are so many sources for free education out there. My homeschooling kids love Khan Academy.
This sounds like a great thing, free education will certainly help a lot of people. We could do with something similar in the UK.
I do believe you do as well have access to both of these websites!!
This is such a great initiative that I never knew existed! Heading over now to see if any courses would suit me!
That’s very cool that you have something there you could get a free education with. I know that my library is considering adding on something that is something like this place. And it’s very cool that you get continuing education units for all of that.
You are such a life saver! omg this is so so amazing! i can’t wait to try out all the courses i want on alison.com.
thank you!
This is an awesome opportunity to learn. I love that people are sharing their knowledge without asking for anything in return. I’m sure a lot of people will benefit from this.
That’s good news for a lot of people. There’s always a chance to increase your knowledge and keep learning and this is great because it’s free.
I love learning new things or brushing up on old topics that I’ve forgotten half the information. Thanks for sharing these! I’ll have to check them out.

Lucky for New Yorkers and they ciuld avail these exciting free education. Hope it will be continuosly funded.
Ooh! As a lover of learning this sounds awesome. I’m from NY, and even though many are shooting down our new Free tuition I’m thankful for it. For some, it is the only way they’ll get an education.
My mission is to keep learning all throughout life so this is perfect! I need to look into Khan Academy.
This is awesome, I hope North Carolina do it also.
I have to say it – nothing is ever free. If we choose to learn, then we are giving up our time to invest in learning. Which it totally worth it! Awesome post from an exhausted mommy pursuing a PhD.
I am constantly looking up random subjects to learn more about them, so the fact there is a specific site I can visit and learn more sounds excellent to me! It’s always helpful to learn new information, whether to help with a new skillset or just to keep your brain active!
Free education? This is fabulous and what an amazing opportunity. I’ll check out the site!
I wish all states would start offering free education. It really would save a lot of debt. I’ve never heard of these sites before but will definitely check them out. I do have a question about it though. Do they give you a certificate or degree if you finish the courses?
As a homeschooling mom, I am all about free education! Too bad I am not in New York anymore. I would totally take advantage of this.
Is this only for New york resident? This is such a good clause! I hope everyone can have the privileged.
Always down to better myself. Will definitely be checking out these classes. Thanks for the tips!

I used The Khan Academy years ago, it’s such an incredible host of so much information. The fact that it is free is just unbelievable
This is awesome! What a great opportunity.
